Finding Research Sources
Getting to the Databases
Use the links on the GCM Library website to access the databases. If you are not at school, you will need the passwords. NOTE: You will be asked to log onto your school account to access this password file.
START HERE:
For research on geography, history, and culture:
- ABC-CLIO World Geography

- Gale World History in Context

*Use a public library card to access: your own or our shared school account, available on the database password list.
For literary criticism:
For sources in English AND French:
- Gale PowerSearch (TIP! Select “French” Publication Language in advanced search.)
For sources in French:
- Google.fr (TIP! Search with French keywords.)
- Britannica Encyclopaedia Universalis
For images:
- Britannica ImageQuest
- Any of the country information databases

Search Tips
Use the browse feature available in many databases to help you focus on a topic.
Use Advanced Search options to limit your results to certain types of information or particular date ranges.
Search with a variety of terms including synonyms to get a variety of results.
